Floyd County Woman Found Dead From Gunshot Wound; State Police Continue Investigating

Kentucky State Police have launched a full investigation after a woman was found dead from a gunshot wound in the Beaver area of Floyd County on Friday.

Authorities say the call came in through Prestonsburg 911 requesting assistance for an unresponsive woman located along the 14000 block of Kentucky Route 979. Troopers from KSP Post 9 in Pikeville responded to the scene, where they discovered 35-year-old Sarah Slone of Beaver lying near the roadway with a fatal gunshot injury. Early reports listed her last name as “Stone,” but investigators later confirmed the correct spelling as Slone.

The Floyd County Coroner’s Office pronounced Slone dead shortly after troopers arrived. Officials have not yet released information about where on her body she was shot or how long she may have been at the location before the 911 call was made.

According to KSP, Slone’s body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for a formal autopsy to help determine the exact cause and manner of death. Investigators spent several hours processing the scene, interviewing community members, and gathering evidence.

Residents in the Beaver community say the area is typically quiet, and news of the discovery has left many concerned as police work to determine whether foul play was involved.

KSP Detective Dylan Mullins has been assigned as lead investigator. Troopers say additional details will be released once the autopsy is complete and more information becomes available.

The case remains an active and ongoing investigation.
