Gross Hires New Attorney in Jayden Spicer Murder Case

WAYNE COUNTY, Ky. — The mother and stepfather charged in the death of 10-year-old Jayden Spicer were back in court Friday, where one of the defendants appeared with new legal representation.

Joshua Gross appeared in person while co-defendant Felicia Spicer joined via video conference. Gross, whose previous attorney withdrew from the case due to a conflict of interest, is now represented by attorney Patrick O’Neil.

Both remain in custody under a $1 million bond as they face serious charges connected to Jayden’s death. Felicia Spicer is charged with murder, filing a false report, tampering with physical evidence, abuse of a corpse, and two counts of tampering with a witness. Gross faces complicity to those same charges, including complicity to murder.

Gross’s new attorney has requested an adversarial bond hearing — an opportunity to argue for a reduced bond — which is scheduled for November 18. Felicia Spicer’s legal team has not yet filed for a bond reduction but may consider joining that hearing.

The case has gripped the local community since Jayden’s body was found earlier this year, hidden in a tote and buried in a shallow grave — a discovery that left many heartbroken and demanding justice.

Both defendants are expected to return to court as proceedings continue into the new year.
