Corbin Man Arrested After Allegedly Impersonating Police Officer to Stop Teen Girls
A Corbin man is behind bars after authorities say he pretended to be a police officer and stopped two teenage girls riding a golf cart in the Tattersall community.
According to the Whitley County Sheriff’s Office, 53-year-old Stephen D. Smith was arrested Wednesday in the Forego Trail area after reportedly flashing a badge and identifying himself as an “assistant constable.”
Deputies say Smith told the girls he could issue them a ticket, leading the teens to contact their parents, who then called law enforcement.
When a deputy arrived, he spoke with the girls, their parents, and eventually with Smith himself. During the investigation, officials say Smith was found to have a badge in his possession.
Smith was taken into custody and booked into the Whitley County Detention Center, where he faces a charge of impersonating a police officer.
The sheriff’s office has not released any further details at this time.
