KY Uber Driver Arrested, Accused of Raping Unconscious Passenger in Richmond

RICHMOND, Ky. — A Richmond man is facing serious charges after police say he sexually assaulted an intoxicated Uber passenger who lost consciousness during her ride.

According to a criminal complaint, 61-year-old Clifford E. Partin is charged with first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy.

Investigators say the incident happened in August after the victim left a party on High Street and requested an Uber because she was heavily intoxicated. Shortly after the ride began, police say she became unconscious.

The complaint states the victim later woke up to find the vehicle parked in a secluded section of a parking lot on Lantern Ridge Drive. She told police she demanded to be taken home, exited the vehicle a short distance from her residence, and ran the rest of the way.

The victim later sought medical care and reported the incident to authorities.

Police say Uber’s GPS trip data supported the victim’s account, and surveillance video from nearby businesses confirmed the vehicle stayed in the secluded lot for about 25 minutes.

Partin was arrested Monday. According to police, he admitted to sexual acts during an interview.

He is currently being held at the Madison County Detention Center.
