Louisiana Parents Accused of Unimaginable Abuse Leading to Infant’s Death
Two parents from Opelousas, Louisiana, have been arrested in connection with the death of their 2-month-old daughter after what police describe as “unimaginable abuse.”
According to the Opelousas Police Department, officers were called on October 25 after receiving reports of an unresponsive infant. The baby girl was rushed to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Investigators say medical staff found extensive signs of abuse, including broken ribs, a severed lower spine, and symptoms of severe dehydration and malnourishment.
Authorities identified the child’s parents, Kaylee Fontenot and Taylor Broussard, as the only individuals responsible for the baby’s care since birth. Following the investigation, both were charged with first-degree murder, cruelty to juveniles, and second-degree battery.
Police confirmed Fontenot was taken into custody shortly after the investigation began, while Broussard initially evaded capture. He later turned himself in to St. Landry Parish authorities on November 3.
“Our hearts are with this infant who suffered unimaginable abuse,” said Opelousas Police Chief Graig LeBlanc. “This investigation is ongoing, and our detectives are committed to ensuring justice is served.”
Officials are asking anyone who suspects or witnesses child abuse to report it immediately. Help is available through the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-422-4453 or online at www.childhelp.org. All calls are confidential and available 24/7.
