Louisville Man Found Dead in Eastern Kentucky Prison, Foul Play Suspected
WEST LIBERTY, Ky. — Authorities are investigating the death of a Louisville man at the Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex in West Liberty, with foul play suspected, according to the Kentucky State Police. The man, 34-year-old Robert A. Broyles, was discovered unresponsive in his cell during the morning count on August 31, 2025. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Kentucky State Police said their preliminary findings suggest foul play may be involved, though investigators note that the situation is still developing. Information regarding Broyles’ prison sentence has not been released. Court records indicate a Louisville man with a matching name was sentenced to one year in prison last year for theft-related charges. The Kentucky Department of Corrections’ online offender database did not list him as of Monday morning. Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex is a medium-security prison located roughly 160 miles east of Louisville. As of late August, the facility housed more than 1,700 inmates. Authorities continue to investigate and have not released further details regarding potential suspects.
