Louisville man indicted for murder in death of 1-year-old

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville man is facing serious charges following the death of a 1-year-old girl earlier this year.

According to the Louisville Metro Police Department, officers responded to a home in the 1500 block of Haskin Avenue on August 21, 2024, after receiving reports of an unresponsive child. The baby was rushed to Norton Children’s Hospital, where she later died.

Investigators say 24-year-old Gregory Ford was taken into custody Tuesday on a fugitive bench warrant. He was indicted Monday on a murder charge connected to the child’s death.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 1-year-old Evani McAfee-Wooten, determining her cause of death to be blunt force injuries.

In addition to the murder indictment, Ford is also facing charges in a separate case for first-degree strangulation and fourth-degree assault, both listed as domestic violence offenses.

He is currently being held at Louisville Metro Corrections on a $100,000 bond.
