Madison County Teacher and Soccer Coach Arrested on Child Sexual Abuse Charge
10/14/2025

RICHMOND, Ky. — A Madison County elementary teacher and soccer coach has been arrested following an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse involving a former student.
According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, 51-year-old Charles Hamilton voluntarily surrendered to deputies after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He is now facing a charge of first-degree sexual abuse.
Investigators say the alleged incident took place during the 2018–2019 school year while Hamilton was working at Boonesborough Elementary School. Court documents allege the victim, who was just 10 years old at the time, was assaulted in a school bathroom during a power outage. The victim, who is now 17, recently came forward, prompting law enforcement and child protection officials to launch a new investigation earlier this fall.
On September 8, 2025, the Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) notified the Madison County School District about the allegations. District leaders say Hamilton was immediately placed on administrative leave and has not returned to his teaching or coaching positions since that date.
The district also confirmed that Hamilton had been serving as a girls’ soccer coach at Caudill Middle School in addition to his teaching duties at Boonesborough Elementary.
Officials say they continue to work closely with investigators and will cooperate fully throughout the ongoing case.
Hamilton was booked into the Madison County Detention Center following his surrender. Authorities have not released additional details about the investigation at this time.
