Vanderbilt University Medical Center confirmed that three crew members were on board — the pilot and two nurses — and no patients were being transported at the time.
“Vanderbilt University Medical Center is deeply saddened to confirm that a Vanderbilt LifeFlight helicopter was involved in an accident this afternoon in Wilson County,” said John Howser, Chief Communications Officer for VUMC. “Tragically, one crew member lost their life, and two others are in critical condition and receiving care at Vanderbilt University Hospital. No patients were on board at the time of the incident. Our hearts and deepest sympathies are with our Vanderbilt LifeFlight colleagues, their families, and loved ones during this difficult time.”
Flight records from FlightAware show the EC130 helicopter was airborne for about eight minutes before losing signal near the crash site.
Wilson County Sheriff’s Office Captain Scott Moore said multiple agencies responded to the scene and worked to rescue those trapped in the wreckage. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will lead the investigation into what caused the crash.
The Wilson County Firefighters Association Local 4238 released a statement expressing condolences and gratitude for the emergency crews who responded:
“Our hearts are heavy tonight in Wilson County. We extend our deepest condolences to the victims and families affected by the tragic Vanderbilt LifeFlight helicopter crash here in our community.
