Public Service Commission to Review Proposed Increases to Electric and Gas Rates

10/14/2025

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky utility customers could soon see higher energy bills as state regulators review proposed rate increases from LG&E and KU.

The Public Service Commission (PSC) is meeting Tuesday to discuss the utilities’ requests, which would raise both electric and natural gas rates across their service areas. The last rate adjustment for the companies took place in 2020.

According to filings, Kentucky Utilities (KU) is seeking an 11.5% increase to its electric rates. Louisville Gas and Electric (LG&E) has requested an 8.3% increase for electricity and a 14% increase for natural gas service.

If the proposals are approved, the typical residential customer could see bills rise by as much as $18 per month.

The PSC is inviting the public to share feedback before any decisions are made. A public meeting is set for Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) on Newtown Pike in Lexington.

Residents are encouraged to attend and voice their opinions on how the proposed changes could impact households and businesses across the region.
