Two Hospitalized with minor injuries After Collision Involving KSP Cruiser in Knott County

HINDMAN, Ky. — Two people were taken to the hospital Tuesday evening following a crash involving a marked Kentucky State Police vehicle on KY-80 in the Hindman area.

According to officials, the incident occurred around 5:19 p.m. when a KSP patrol car driven by Anthony Bersaglia was traveling eastbound and struck the rear of a passenger vehicle moving in the same direction. Troopers say Bersaglia was en route from Post 13 to his assigned garage for routine cruiser maintenance at the time of the collision.

The driver of the passenger vehicle, identified as Debroah Wallen, along with a juvenile occupant, was transported to Hazard ARH for evaluation of what are believed to be minor injuries. Trooper Bersaglia was not injured.

KSP reports that the crash remains under investigation and is currently undergoing reconstruction to determine the circumstances leading up to the impact.
