Woman Arrested on Murder Charge After Human Remains Found

MOUNT VERNON, Ky. — A Rockcastle County woman is facing serious charges, including murder, after authorities discovered human remains outside a home on Disputanta Road over the weekend. According to Kentucky State Police, the investigation began in the early morning hours of Sunday, September 28, when Rockcastle County 911 Dispatch received a call related to a missing person case. Deputies followed up on that lead, which brought them to a property on Disputanta Road. Once on scene, officers found human remains hidden under a tarp and other objects in the yard. Detectives from KSP Post 11 in London responded and made contact with 40-year-old Tausha Flores Mejia, who was inside the residence. Mejia was detained without incident and later charged in connection with the case. She faces multiple charges, including: • Murder • Abuse of a Corpse • First-Degree Burglary • First-Degree Robbery • Tampering with Physical Evidence • Receiving Stolen Property (valued between $1,000 and $10,000) Mejia was taken to the Rockcastle County Detention Center, and investigators say additional charges are possible as the case develops. The Rockcastle County Coroner’s Office also responded to the scene. An autopsy and toxicology tests are currently pending to help determine further details in the investigation. Kentucky State Police Detective James Royal is leading the investigation, with assistance from KSP personnel, the Rockcastle County Sheriff’s Office, and the Coroner’s Office.
