Woman cited after firing shots inside Baptist Health Louisville hospital room
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A woman was cited by police Wednesday morning after authorities say she fired a gun multiple times inside her hospital room at Baptist Health Louisville.
According to St. Matthews Police Chief Barry Wilkerson, officers first received a call around 5:30 a.m. Initial reports quickly escalated to an active shooter situation, causing some confusion, but police determined it was an isolated incident confined to one room.
The woman, identified on the citation as Mystic Rayne, allegedly fired four shots inside the room. Police say the first shot was fired as a nurse attempted to enter. Authorities do not believe the shots were aimed directly at anyone; instead, some rounds were reportedly fired toward the ceiling and out a window.
Officers evacuated 21 patients before entering the room. When police made entry, the woman reportedly threw the gun onto a chair.
She was cited for wanton endangerment and criminal mischief. Officials said she had been airlifted to the hospital prior to the incident.
Louisville Metro Police also responded to assist. Chief Wilkerson praised the quick and coordinated response, noting that officers from multiple agencies rushed to the scene once reports of shots fired came in.
